310 numbers on voip.ms

Over the weekend, I tried to order a pizza from Pizza Nova, using their 905-310-3300 number, but I consistently got a fast beep.  I re-dialed using their 416-439-0000 number, and was able to order my pizza fine. Whew!

I put a ticket in to voip.ms, and this is what they said:

It seems that the numbers with 310 exchange are special numbers and they are not reachable outside from the area they are linked, the test we have made indicates that the numbers are not reachable from our network.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

So, quick heads up: you can’t dial 310 numbers on voip.ms!

UPDATE (2011-04-12): 310 numbers seem to be working, see comments below.

  1. @Steve
I’m pretty sure my caller id is set up fine – I’ve got e911 activated.

Have you dialed 310 numbers on voip.ms (a specific voip provider) successfully?

Dialing 310-xxxx on the phone doesn’t work for me. Can you provide and example of what you would press on the dialpad that works?

  2. I can make 310- calls on voip.ms. Do not include the area code.
If you are using an ATA (I am using a Linksys PAP2T) you’ll need to add 310 numbers to your dial plan. In my case I have 310xxxxS0 in my dial plan which works for calling Pizza Hut (310-1010).

    Thanks Teddy!

I tried dialing your 310-1010, and it went through without any changes to my dial plan.

I then tried dialing 310-3300, the number I was originally having trouble with, and it seemed to go through okay.

I guess they must have fixed it!

  4. I tried dialing a 310-xxxx number from ottawa area and it does not work. With or without the area code.

  5. Gabriel’s put alternate numbers on their website for folks who can’t dial 310-7777. Try 613-627-2373, or 613-748-3480. I re-routed the 310 number in my dial plan to get around the problem.

  6. I should add, voip.ms has this to say about it:

Exchange 310 is a special code, these numbers are only reachable from the area where they belong, from the service, you will need to dial only the 7 digits to properly reach these numbers, pass a valid Canadian CallerID and be registered in Chicago, Seattle or any of the Canadian servers.

Example: Dial 310-xxxx (do not use the dashes when dialling), if you pass a caller id in area code 514, dialling seven digits 310-xxxx is like dialling 514-310-xxxx.
