Thanks somebody here for knocking some dust off my brain regarding WinImage. The trick I used after that revelation was to extract the files from the FreeDOS 1.1 image, and export the MBR from the .img file, then create a new image file the size I wanted (just add sectors til you are happy) and then I injected the extracted files and applied the MBR (ended up as .ima, but shouldn't matter to MEMDISK, as I'm booting from a multiboot USB installed with SYSLINUX).

Thanks guys for the tips, this is how I got around resizing the img (easy on Linux, tough on Windows).

@simone
I can't help you with installers, but with respect to attic vs outdoor install: you lose about half the signal moving the antenna into the attic, for an antenna mounted at the same height. Mind you, you won't have a giant antenna hanging off of the side of your house, and in Oshawa at least, the loss of signal isn't really a problem.

I haven't touched Asterisk or FreePBX, however, voip.ms had this to say about it. Try comparing your config to their reference. My config for the SPA2102 was based on their reference, and the various support tickets over time.

I would try to set up IAX as the transport, as I understand it, there's less to go wrong with the NAT - but you'll have to do the research.

Derek, I was very encouraged by this article on ditching Bell. I am with Rogers cable in Ottawa and have just signed up with voip.ms and Im trying to run FreePBX. However I'm having a hell of a time getting it to work. I can receive incoming calls but outgoing calls fail. If I send you my SIP trunk config for voip.ms would you please take a look at it? I also would like some pointers on configuring my router, which is a Linksys E1200. Maybe that's the problem. — Regards, Mark.

@Adam P
Why don't you write the image, and then resize the partition to fit your needs? If you are using linux, a simple partition editor is gparted.

If you are using Windows (also probably Mac), you could use an Ubuntu (or likely any other desktop distro) Install CD to boot up your computer to linux for just one time.
